blogging idol: top 10 performances
So, this week was much better than Beatles Redux Week last week. Plenty of dissapointment though (Come on Archuleta, you’re gonna make me lose all my idol polls!)
The Breakdown:
Ramiele Malubay is gonna go home this week. Girl just can’t pull off Alone. It’s one of the most popular idol songs and still, I’ve only really really heard it done awesome by Carrie Underwood.
Jason Castro is beginning to bore me, sigh. Mix it up J! (Kind of like Warm it up Kris, but not)
Syesha Mercado had the best vocal of the night and for me for her, one of the top 2 or 3 vocals of the entire competition so far. But on a podcast this morning (Idol Review w/ Josh and Jen) Josh mentioned that he was just getting sick of that early nineties Mariah Carey style of music, and I couldn’t agree more. That kind of stuff may not win idol anymore.
Chikezie Too Easy wasn’t too bad but I zoned out like 17 times during his performance. It was just boring and he looks a bit creepy. He will be in the bottom 3.
Brooke White was just wonderful and beautiful for about 45 seconds last night. Why did you bring in the band Brooke?? If you’re gonna be Lilith Fair, be Lilith Fair, dude, don’t inject the 80’s camp.
Michael Johns is the most OVERRATED contestant EVER. I can’t stand his voice. At all. At all. It’s not good.
Carly Smithson did a weird arrangement and performance of Total Eclipse of the Heart. It was like 90% climax. No builds or fades or crescendos. Just, in your mug Irish. She needs to start stepping it up. Oh, and get a new stylist, that’s two weeks running with bad dresses!
David Archuleta is going to make me lose my idol pools if he keeps this up. Dude, for a 17 year old, you sound sooo dated! Come on man! Be contemporary, be hip, be with it. Don’t let your crazy stage dad choose your shit anymore!
Kristy Lee Cook did indeed, as Simon said, make the smartest choice of song ever on American idol. My god. She competently sang God Bless the USA as the entire republican constituency stood in applause around the nation and listened carefully as The Crest read Kristy’s number to vote for her. Ugh! She should go home tonight, but she will not.
David Cook (pictured above) was A M A Z I N G. What!? Billie Jean??? The rocked out-Wanted Dead or Alive version?? Dude. David Cook is in it to win it!! Seriously, download this shit from iTunes. It was one of my favorite AI performances ever. David is emerging as a front runner, beyond dark horse range.
Predicted Bottom 3
Ramiele Malubay
Chikezie Eze
Jason Castro
Predicted to go home tonight: Ramiele Malubay
